Dun Bheagan 8 Limited Edition 2002

Dun Bheagan

Dun Bheagan 8 Single Malt Limited Edition 2002 whisky is a very long named Scotch I found at a local LCBO. I do like Islay, and at 50$ (CAD), this seemed like a good deal. From what I’ve been able to learn is this is the youngest of their Single Malts. It’s made by Ian Macleod Distillers. They are an independent bottler who release scotches from all of the regions, with each being labeled with a cask number and the amount of bottles.

Price: $49.99 (CAD) (In Ontario)

Cask #: 701912/701926

Region: Islay

Abv: 43%

Color: Burnt Orange

Nose: Vanilla, orange zest, straw, a hint of cassia buds, smoke

Taste: Smokiness blasts your tastes buds then gives way to brininess, apricot, and pepper,

Finish: Apples, hint of almonds, dark cocoa, all disappearing into smoke and peat.

Conclusion: Overall I enjoy this scotch, however the smoke can be a little out of control. I love Islay’s and this is a great addition, I usually can’t have more than 1 of these. It’s simple, direct, and if you love smoke I’d recommend grabbing it. I look forward to finding some other Dun Bheagan’s in the future.

77/100

  1. 7 guys here tasting this beaut. A little skeptical prior to opening as it was tough to research – but this blog post provided us with great info. It aged quite well – smokey off the top but the nicest hint of sweetness at the end, very subtle but perfect. Overall great glass, 8.9/10. Cheers!

  2. December 26, 2022. Just taste this 2002 Dun Beaghin and came away very satisfied. More smoke than I usually like but then it is an Islay!
The orange zest came through very early though masked a bit by the smokiness.
I will enjoy a second taste at a later date with a clear palate.
